The SCU-300 intelligibly stacks all incoming audio into the headset in a way that you can spatially separate the incoming transmissions(ComTac VII). The SCU-300 comes in 2 different colors, Tan(SCU-300NA CY) and Grey(SCU-300NA WS GE). The grey model is Bluetooth enabled, allowing it to be paired with a Smartphone or other EUD with Bluetooth capabilities. Both models include 1 Wireless Remote Control Unit(RCU-300) with ability to deploy up to 2 wireless Remote Control Units per SCU.

Peltor’s Tactical Modular Audio System(TMAS) allows seamless and intuitive wireless integration between the ComTac VII, Tactical Wireless Ear Plugs, System Control Unit(SCU/PTT), and Wireless Remote Control Unit(RCU-300).

Wireless connectivity is created by Near Field Magnetic Induction is a short range, digital, wireless physical layer that communicates by coupling a tight, low power, non-propagating magnetic field between devices. The range is approximately 50 cm (20 in). The steep degradation of NFMI signal strength as a function of distance increases privacy and reduces issues with interference compared to traditional wireless technology. Spectral interference is reduced by a “channel hopping” algorithm incorporated into the TMAS suite.

The SCU can be remotely operated via the RCU-300(1 Included). Besides using the RCU as a PTT, it can also be used to adjust the volume level of the environmental listening or radio. Designed to be mounted on a picatinny rail, it can also be placed elsewhere (i.e. steering wheel, second body location). Two RCUs can be paired to the SCU for mission flexibility set-up.

Good product but needs a little bit more R&D

The concept of this product is amazing, no more cables to the helmet which gives your head less restrictions in turning and less stuff to get snagged on. In practice the limitations of this device are it's size, it's limiting mounting positions, and it's antenna placement which depending on where you mount it will not give you a good signal. I have this device mounted on the top left of my plate carrier and I have to use waist mode to push more power to keep my headset connected and when I turn my head all the way to the right the audio cuts off. Yes there are instructions on where to mount this device and how to mount this device but the mission dictates the plate carrier configuration and then having to play jigsaw with a box that has to be mounted in the perfect spot or no signal is just a pain. That being said if peltore can shrink this down a bit more, make the signal a bit more omnidirectional and allow add one more volume increase setting (depending on the radio you're using it could help) then they would have a 5 star product. Overall the product is usable but it has so much more to go for seamless integration with the other million things the mission requires us to carry on our plate carrier.
