Successor to the ComTac V, the ComTac 8 features redesigned tech, ear cups, and headband.
Peltor has stepped up the environmental listening feature & hearing protection to create the new/exclusive MAP & Sound Detection features. 3M PELTOR ComTac VIII offers a new way to adjust the auditory settings of your headset for your mission. Traditionally, a headset has a set frequency response, & the operator can only increase or decrease the volume. The MAP function provides new advanced ambient listening modes that allow access to a variety of gain settings, but with frequency shaping, to enhance auditory performance in five conditions. The MAP Profiles have been designed with a variety of combat and combat support operations in mind.
-Overwatch: Best when the user is motionless in low or no noise and sound detection is most important. Overwatch offers the most amplification and widest frequency response of the MAP settings. It is reached by pressing the (+) button until a beep is heard.
-Patrolling: Similar to overwatch in loudness level but with reduced high frequency amplification to decrease sounds of footsteps or equipment moving on the body when walking.
-Conversation: Optimized for face-to-face conversations in low to moderate noise. This setting is recommended for when sound localization is critical.
-Comfort: Designed for use in high noise for extended periods of time such as during air movement, but when some environmental listening is still desired.
-Mute: The environmental microphones are muted and is ideal for monitoring and communicating by radio.
The Soundscape feature allows the ComTac VIII to automatically increase the preset radio volume when the ambient/environmental audio becomes consistently loud. The headset does this post the radio volume level and will automatically return the radio volume preset once the ambient sounds levels have decreased.
The new ComTac VIII ear cup design features a thiner profile while retaining the industry standard NRR of 22dB with Included Foam Ear Pads - 23dB w/ Upgraded Gel Ear Cushions. The operating buttons have also been moved from the bottom of the ear cup to the side of the ear cup. This button change allows the user to push the buttons without unintentionally pushing the headset away from your ear.
The new, low profile headband design allows for quick and easy switching to helmet mounts as well as comfortable use of the headband directly under a helmet.

Works Great and Super Comfy
I was worried that they wouldn’t be worth the cost but the weekend after they got delivered I spent two 12+ hour days at the range with them on and didn’t get uncomfortable at all. It is 100% needed to get the gel cup upgrade.

These Comtacs are amazing, the MAP sound profiles are superb and overall they just sound much better than the 3s. But the real star of the show is Anthony at CGS, he made sure I got my pair when I needed it, going above and beyond any other retailer I’ve dealt with in the past. If you need any communcation equipment I woukd wholly recommend CGS!
