The product is not the same as depicted and was too short to clear a smartphone case without an extension.

Hello, there are slight variations due to manufacturer availability and sourcing however, there wouldn't be any drastic variation to the overall size/length/measurement of the adapter. Bulkier smartphone cases may make it difficult to connect certain adapters but there shouldn't be any issues if you're using a standard phone case.
